The Jewish teens of Grand Rapids, MI
participated in a program held by Aish (www.aish.com), the Jewish Federation and Jewish Teen Connection for a webcam discussion with Sara, who was at East Lansing, MI on May 31, 2009. The discussion focused on how Sara believed the Jewish community came to her family's aide during the worst of times with food, love, wisdom, friendship and their prayers. Several rabbi's visited, but many spread the word. Sara also spoke about her theory that what happened, as bad as it was, was a life saving miracle from G-d.

The Coral Springs Middle School

Naomi Phillips, Sara’s mom, is a seventh grade math teacher at Coral Springs Middle School. Students and fellow teachers missed Naomi’s smiling face day to day and soon found out why she was no longer around. As a compassionate and caring group, they decided to hold an event. The Funds from this night were given to the McRee House.

Jonathan Jenkins Runs a Half Marathon to Raise Money for Ulcerative Colitis in Sara’s Honor

Jonathan is training to run a half a marathon on July 19th. He will run in the Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon as a member of Team Challenge, an organization that fundraises to help fight Crohn's Disease and Colitis. Jonathan visited Sara in the hospital, and as her best friend, gave her the strength and courage she needed to get through her worst times. Being one of the first to visit, Jonathan helped Sara embark on a strong and fearless journey of recovery- for that Sara will always be thankful.

The Sara Phillips One-Legged Bar Hop

The Sara Phillips One-Legged Bar Hop was held on April 17, 2009. The event was an amazing success, with a 116 T-shirts sold, and tons of friends and family supporting Sara. Sara was in the hospital the entire week prior, but worked hard with her doctor to get better. At 3:30, just hours before the hop, Sara was released from the hospital! Many of her nurses and doctor’s bought shirts and in fact her favorite doctor and nurse attended! The entire bar was filled with her MSU law friends and Sara could not have been happier!
